New look and feel
The reference for users of Social Misfits has been long overdo for a retro-fit,
so here it is!
What is Social Misfits
Social Misfits is a Chat and Message Bulletin Board system, mainly devloped
for Unix type platforms. The yabbs
system software was written by Alex Wetmore.
How do I get in?
For users of the old days, you can just point your clients to yabbs.phred.org,
and you will get in. For new users, try telnetting to yabbs.phred.org on
port 8888. Here is a command script that you can run from Windows 95 or
Windows NT that will do this for you. Click Here and
when your browser prompts you, tell it to open the application. If you are
not brave enough to try the script, just hit the start button, choose run
and type telnet yabbs.phred.org 8888. Once you get onto the system
it is fairly easy to use.
Hi, I'm a old user and I have forgotten my password, can I get it changed?
For users of the original yabbs system, or users of yabbs2 just create a new
account. If you are a user of Social Misfits send email to
hellion@phred.org and I will deal with
these problems on a case-by-case basis.
Are there clients for Windows 95, or Windows NT?
At this time there exist no stable clients for the Win32 platform. I realize that
this is a problem, and am working on a solution. You will have to forgive me
though, I do work 50 hours a week at a "real" job, so I am working on these
things in my spare time.
You can look at some screen shots and download the first alpha of the new "Yahoo
for Windows" finger client that I am working on here.
Is there a web based interface for Social Misfits?
No. I do want to get a web based interface to read the message bases, but
I personally do not plan a full web interface to the system. Of course
this doesn't mean that someone else who writes yabbs software is not. If
it becomes available I will link to it here.
Where can I get more information?
Look here for updates (I promise more frequently than every 2 years!) Send
any questions you have to
hellion@phred.org, sienna@phred.org
or les@phred.org
